Angler of the Year points are distributed after each regular season MAKB tournament, excluding the MAKB-hosted KBF Trail Event, online challenges, one-off special events, etc. Points are based on an angler’s Top 25 catches throughout the season—1 inch equals 1 point. Bonus points are awarded for Top 5 finishes—5 points for 1st, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, etc.
This points format is intended to level the playing field and reward not only tournament participation, but also angler skill, the quality of bass each angler catches, and top finishes. It offers more anglers the opportunity to be competitive in the Angler of the Year race, not just a select few who fish the most tournaments.
At the end of the year, the top-ranking angler receives the annual MAKB Angler of the Year trophy.
Additionally, as we are an official Kayak Bass Fishing partner group, the top-ranked MAKB members who are also KBF members are awarded a qualifying slot for the 2018 KBF National Championship, which will be held on the world famous bass factory Kentucky Lake in 2018 and where the top-placing angler in that event will receive an unprecedented minimum payout of $100,000!
